If you want to try out google chrome OS on vmware wrokstation, you can follow steps bellow:

  1. You can get a copy of chrome OS vm from here.
  2. After downloading just decompress the file.
  3. Then create a custom virtual machine on your vmware workstation.
  4. Choose “I will install OS later”.
  5. Select “Other” and “Other Linux Kernel 2.6″ for the guest operating system.
  6. Add memory, I set it to use 1GB. You can try to input the value you most comfortable with.
  7. Use Bridged Networking. This is important, it won’t work if ou set it to use NAT.
  8. On the select a Disk screen, select “Use an existing virtual disk and browse for the .vmdk that you downloaded and decompressed.
  9. I choose Not to convert the disk format to the newest format.
  10. The username and password to login to chrome os is your google account.
  11. If you still can’t login you can try to login using username: chronos and no password needed.

I have installed Chrome OS on one of my netbooks and the performance of Chrome OS is just okay. there is nothing fancy or very special about it. It was just a sort of GUI version of linux or something.

Actually it is an old idea started by netscape but they can’t achieve it because microsoft saw that coming as well. Now google just try to continue it since cloud computing is started to bloom.

Chrome OS is just another rebranded Linux GUI, it would be much better if Google came up with an OS that would directly compete with Windows.

I have installed Chrome OS on one of my laptops. Well, it feels like Ubuntu GUI the first time i use it. It is pretty much very basic.
